Hi, this beautiful cms really needs a file manager to allows administrators to upload files, images to a public directory without ftp and use them directly in the editor.
regards.

Yes, we know. As soon as we have time for that.
Thanks for a reminder.

will the future file manager allow to upload images by using the tinyMCE insert image function (from the rich text editor widdget) ??
Being able to use the insert images from tinyMCe woud allow for more flexible text to images size ratio than is possible the text/image widget. Alan

Where and when do you use it? I hope you know that each time you use RichText widget, a kitten dies ? You are not the one waiting for it. So File manager will be included as soon as possible. But I just want to understand you better. How actually are you using ImpressPages. I personally hate RichText editor. That is the reason why I've created ImpressPages. Tell me about those situations when you need RichText widget and file manager. Might be some new widgets needed to cover that need?

I'am not using the RichText widget often. But for example when you add a image (image widget) you always have to upload the image. I think it's better when there is a File Manager so that me and my customers can upload images and photos once. And use those images on multiple pages without uploading it every time. Another example: When I add an image to the website. And I delete this image from one page I have to upload it again. The image is deleted from the server, when there is a File Manager this problem will be solved. Sorry for my bad English

From my point of view it is very important to be able to organise the images, and not just images, I want give my customers .pdf data sheets to download. Currently I imagine the followig file system for images and .pdfs would be suitable for my site.
Files directory/ Company1 |_ Reactors |........|_images |........|_pdfs |_Pumps |........|_images |........|_pdfs |_Accessories |........|_images |........|_pdfs | Company2 |.........similar structure to above | Company3 |.........similar structure to above
I am still trying to set up version2 on localhost, and I have been playing around looking at different options, the "mysite/files" directory already looks a complete mess to my way of thinking, everything in the same dirctory.
I anticipate around 500 images (sometimes we use different sizes of the same images) and 100 pdfs. Some of our images are very similar and it easy to use the wrong one if you cannot remember the exact file name. This is even more problematic when there is more than one person populating or updating the site.
So for me it is essential to maintain order with the images /files directory with sub directories.
I would agere tinyMCE can be a pain, especially if you make a lot of changes when you are adding text or trying to layout the page (sometimes it is very difficult to layout a page exactly as you want). At the end of the day the html can end up a complete mess and the only way you can correct it is going in a tidy up the html by hand. This can end up even more problematic when different people with different ways of working are updating the site.
From what I know of the IP text/image widget, gallery widget etc is that they limit the size of the images. On our present website I have tried to limit the images sizes to 3, for example, reactor1Thumb/jpg, reactor1Small.jpg and reactor1Large.jpg - all the same image just differnt sizes. I like to resize images in gimp so I can check the images quality before I use it. Nothing looks worse than image that has gone all fuzzy becasue it has been enlarged too much. This sounds fine but again, when more than one person is updating the page, it can get a mess.
Sometimes we need more flexibility in laying out the text in relation to image (s) than is offered by the text/image widget.
Oh yes and one more very important point, in tinyMCE (rich text version) you can add a link to an image, this is very very important for me.
From what I can see with the standard set up of the text/image widget, it is not possible to add links to images or text.
I have tried (and at last succeeded) in setting up the "simple slide show plugin", but as far as I can see it is not possible to add links to the images, this is a big draw back for me.
Thanks anyway for a great cms.
Alan
