Hello,

I'm new to ImpressPages and thinking about to use it. But before i spend more time in ImpressPags i have some questions.

Are there any suggestions about using models instead of queries alone?

Why isn't there an emplate engine, will it be part of an new release?

I see the request of global, why use global? And not something more oop?

Greetings,
Jacob

raw queries are bad. Later we plan to move towards PDO. Each developer want different implementation of model (starting with raw queries and ending ORM). Probably we will suggest the way to do that, but you will be able to use your own way of doing models. And even now nobody restricts you to deal with model part in your way.

Half of our community strongly believe in need of template engine and other part hates them. And those who want them, don't agree on which one to use.

We think that for ImpressPages growth is better to not use any templating engine. It is developer responsibility to not put logic in views.

It is old bad ugly unfortunate unloved solution that we would like to get rid of. But as soon as we will do that all old modules and plugins will stop working. So we won't do that in 2.x We likely to do that in 3.x

Well i think thats the problem of building an opensource CMS, everyone has his/her opinion about how to develop a CMS.

Thanks for the clear awnsers, i think i will rebuild the 2.x version with a ORM, template engine and get rit of the global.

Is there a development version for 3.x?

There is no 3.x branch yet. All sources are available on GitHub https://github.com/impresspages/ImpressPages-CMS

Hi jacob,

How did your rebuild of IP 2.x to support ORM and template engine and getting rid of the global. Did you have any success? and can you share your experience?
